# Origin Story and Why Now

**TLDR:**

* Connectivity and compute are real infrastructure with real cashflows, but the trust + finance stack behind it is still closed, slow, and opaque.
* Distributed AI infrastructure, connectivity first with CDN and compute next, becomes financeable when projects are standardized and contracted revenue is verifiable over time.
* DAWN is building the full loop: contracted revenue → rules-based capital → financed projects → transparent Vault reporting.
* The timing is right: markets are repricing toward transparent, underwritable yield and shorter value-accrual cycles. “Show me the loop,” instead of “trust the narrative.”
* Governance sets the rules, and the rules allocate the capital.
DAWN started from a simple observation: the Internet is real infrastructure with real cashflows, but the financial and trust stack behind it is still closed, slow, and opaque.

DAWN started in wireless, and the two requirements that apply to telecom are true for all AI infrastructure:

1. **Verification:** financed projects need credible ways to confirm what was delivered and paid under contract, so reporting and settlements track reality.
2. **Capital formation**: once projects and cashflows are measurable, the network needs a way to finance growth programmatically—routing capital into real builds and returning contracted revenue to participants.

DAWN is building both layers: verification and reporting (proof of reserves, attestation, Deal Explorer), and the USD.infra Vault as the on-chain project finance layer for AI infrastructure.

## **Why Now**

We are at an inflection point for AI infrastructure finance. The last cycle rewarded equity-style tokens with long, speculative payoff timelines. This cycle is repricing toward transparent, underwritable yield: products where users can see exactly how vault performance is generated from underlying cashflows.

AI infrastructure (connectivity, compute, and power) is one of the largest and most durable real world cashflow markets, and its economics are increasingly financeable when projects are standardized.

DAWN is positioned for this moment because:
* **Distribution is leverage.** DAWN pairs an established community with operators that run contracted infrastructure.
* **Markets want clearer, shorter cashflow-linked mechanics.** Participants are moving capital toward primitives with clear mechanics and cashflow-linked performance paths. The capital stack is demanding “show me the loop,” instead of “trust the narrative.”
* **AI infrastructure needs a project finance layer native to the internet.** Traditional infrastructure finance is slow, fragmented, and opaque. The USD.infra Vault makes infrastructure cashflow participation legible: capital → projects → infrastructure cashflows → vault performance and redemption liquidity.
